Born and raised in Bell, Florida to Sidney C. Philman and Reeta Thomas Philman, Daphine resided in Flagler County for the past 37 years. She was a homemaker and a member of New Hope Family Church in Bell. In addition to gardening and tending to her plants, Daphine enjoyed shopping at flea markets and yard sales, cooking and spending quality time with her family, especially her grand and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 45 years, Odell Jenkins, a son, Sidney Jenkins and a sister, Della Strickland. Daphine is survived by her children, Rita George (Stevie) of Evans, GA, Bonita Davis (Joe) and Donita Long (Charlie) ,Danny Jenkins (Stacey), all of Bunnell, step-children, Merle Share (Marty) of Inverness and Daniel Odell Jenkins (Shirley) of Bell, a brother, Dale Philman of Lake City, a sister, Joey Owens of Gainesvile, 23 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren. Services celebrating Daphine’s life will be at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at New Hope Family Church in Bell with Pastor Billy Philman officiating. Louie Meredith https://johnsonoverturffunerals.blog/book-of-memories/3697117/Meredith--Louie/service-details.php Louie Henry Meredith, Jr., 91, of Interlachen, passed away on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at his home following an extended illness. A native of Macon, Georgia, he resided in Interlachen for the past 53 years coming from Jacksonville. Louie served honorably in the U.S. Navy and likewise in the 5th Calvary Regiment of the U.S. Army during World War II. Following time in Jacksonville working along side his father as a painter, Louie moved to Putnam County and worked many years as a supervisor overseeing the laying of telecommunication lines. He was a member of Paran Baptist Church in Grandin. Louie had also been a long-time member of Pineland Masonic Lodge #86 F&AM and Palatka Elks BPOE #1232. Preceding him in death were his parents, Louie H. Meredith, Sr. and Thelma Evelyn Slaughter Meredith, a son, Louie H. “Hank” Meredith, III and a brother Benny Meredith. Louie is survived by his wife of 64 years, Thelma G. Meredith of Interlachen, a son, Mike Meredith (Barbara) of Melrose, 2 daughters, Debra Meredith (Tim Roberts) of Green Cove Springs and Tracy Hornsby (Daniel) of Interlachen, a daughter-in-law, Anita Meredith of Interlachen, a brother, Robert Meredith (Bonnie) of Snellville, GA, 2 sisters, Betty West and Penny Cooper (Carl) all of Jacksonville, 9 grandchildren, Michael Meredith (Sandy), L.J. Klemons (Tonya), Justin Meredith (Aslia), Michael-Paul Meredith (Chelsea), Kymberly Meredith, Lacey Roeder (Zane), Brandon Hornsby, Kaitlyn Meredith and Meredith Hornsby as well as numerous great-grandchildren. Louie was a great and loving husband, father and grandpa. He was a devoted family man and was loved tremendously by his family and friends. Private family memorial services will be held. Born in Middletown, Ohio, he resided in Putnam County for 38 years. Don was a master electrician with Armco Steel Company in Middletown for 18 years. He then worked as a shift supervisor in the chip mill division at Georgia Pacific in Palatka. Don and Marianne owned and operated D&M Food Concessions and White Glove Expediting. Don and Marianne were members of PART (Paleontological Archeological Research Team) and participated in many dives for ancient Florida artifacts. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting. Don was a member of Providence Baptist Church in Bardin. He loved the Lord and was an avid witness for his faith. He was preceded in death by his father, Omer Creech. Don is survived by his wife of 43 years, Marianne Creech of Bardin, his mother, Sarah Creech of Monroe, OH, a daughter, Jana Klontz (Steve) of Wilmington, OH, 4 sisters, Linda Gayle Gillespie of Trenton, OH, Deborah Schunk (Norbert) and Sheila McDonough, all of Middletown, OH and Oma Bowman (Harold) of Germantown, OH and numerous nieces and nephews. He had worked as a heavy equipment operator at Old Castle in Palatka. He loved spending time outdoors, riding dirt bikes and 4 wheelers. Colton also loved music and playing the guitar. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Sandra Hope Dowdy. He is survived by his daughter, Gracie Leigh Bass, fiancé, Sierra Mackenzie Roberson, mother, Tina Hope Bass, father, Timothy Bass, Sierra’s parents, Kristie and Elton Starling, sister, Cassie Bass (Jonathan Burkes), maternal grandparents, James and Sheryl Hope, maternal great-grandmother, Nell Chancey, aunts, Pam Chancey (Robin), Stacey Hope, uncle, Kayo Chancey (Debbie), and cousins, Jay Badger (Courtney) and Knzlyn Comer. Mary Nettles https://johnsonoverturffunerals.blog/book-of-memories/3693682/Nettles-Mary/service-details.php Mary Lois Nettles, 76, of Palatka, passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at her home following a recent hospital stay. She was a resident of Putnam County for 50 years. She was born in Nicholls, GA to Prince and Ada Lee and graduated high school there. She then moved to Jacksonville where she met and married Thomas T. Nettles on March 11, 1961 and had 2 daughters, Veronica and Tammy. Mary worked for Blue Cross and Blue Shield as a billing supervisor for 14 years and later she and her husband, Thomas, were the owners of Dunn’s Creek Fishing Resort for 42 years. When Thomas died in 2011 their daughter, Veronica, ran the resort for 4 years. Then the FDOT needed the land for the new lanes of the Dunn’s Creek Bridge, so Veronica completed a deal with FDOT and found a new home for Mary in Palatka moving her there in December of 2014. After she quit working, she spent her time shopping and going to the gym 4 days a week for 30 years. She also enjoyed traveling all over and playing the slot machines in Biloxi, MS. She also looked forward to the Big Fish Fry during the summer months at the resort with Thomas and their customers. Mary was of the Baptist faith and attended many churches in her lifetime. However, the last couple of years her health declined, and she settled for watching church services on TV. Mary was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a very loving and caring person. She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas T. Nettles, parents, Prince and Ada Lee, sisters, Geraldine and Christine, brother, J.V. Lee and son-in-law, Matt Mason. She is survived by her daughters, Veronica L. Walker (Jeff) of Interlachen and Tammy C. Mason of Palatka, brothers, Albert, Donnie, Carlis and Virgil Lee, grandson, Chase Mason, step-grandson, Joshua Walker (Katie) and great-grandchildren, Madison, Hayden and Lennox Walker. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at Johnson-Overturf Interlachen Chapel with Bro. Ricky Bybee officiating. Burial will follow in Pineview Cemetery. She was also an avid billiards player and belonged to the American Pool Association (APA). She was preceded in death by her parents, Beauford McDermont and Madge Frady, a sister, Donna Hardin and a brother, Steve McDermont. Sharon is survived by a son, Josh LePage of Hollister, Phyllis “Mema” Cason of Hollister who was her Mom at heart, a sister, Connie Hodges (Kenneth) of East Palatka, a sister-in-law, Glenda McDermont of Hollister and her special friends, Donnie LePage, Shayla Hurst, Gay Ennis and Danny Howell. She was a native of Broxton, Georgia and had lived here since 1952 coming from Broxton. Betty was a graduate of Broxton High School in 1952, where she played basketball. In 1951 her team won the state championship. Betty had worked at Hudson Pulp and Paper, Central States, and Glendale Hospital in Palatka and had also worked for Commercial Credit in Jacksonville. Betty enjoyed fishing, flower gardening, and going to the mountains. She was also a member of New Hope Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Perry Kite, son, Michael D. Kirkland, brother, Billy Jo Kirkland and two granddaughters, Kimberley Baggs and Shannon Wilkinson. She is survived by two sons, Mitchy Wilkinson and Shane Kite, three daughters, Penny Baggs (Danny), Glenda Peebly and Maurica Heisler (Jamie), two brothers, James Kirkland (Linda) and Jerry Kirkland (Beverly), a sister Alvalene Bicknell, 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Mills, 89 of Palatka passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center following an extended illness. She was a lifelong resident of Palatka and was the daughter of Hugo Kummer and Francina Duane Kummer. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Ed Mills, who served Putnam County as a telephone installer for 33 years. Upon retirement, the two of them enjoyed spending time with their family, especially their grandchildren. Margaret graduated from Mellon High School in 1946. She worked as a telephone operator for Southern Bell and later as the office manager at the family owned Coca-Cola bottling plant in Palatka. She spent most of her life being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Margaret worked as an office manager for DM Timber from 1992 until she retired in 2012. Margaret was a lifelong member of St. Monica Catholic Church. Margaret is preceded in death by her husband, Warren Edward “Ed” Mills, granddaughter Ashley Mills, brothers Hugo, Ed and Roy Kummer and sister Mary Kummer Dobbs. Margaret is survived by her sons, Danny Mills (Ruby), Dave Mills (Susan) and Dennis Mills (Adele), Tim Weddington, grandchildren, W.D. Mills (Stephanie), Ted Mills, Cheyenne Voss (Dustin), Cody Mills, Savannah Mills, Brantley Mills, Karley Labaw and Abey Labaw, great-grandchildren, Logan Mills, Dalton Mills and Josey Mills. Born in Daytona Beach, Sylvia attended the University of Arkansas where she met Dwayne Cox who would be her husband of 37 years. Sylvia and Dwayne moved to Palatka in 1967 where Dwayne had been offered a coaching position at Palatka High School. Over the years, Sylvia worked in various departments within the Putnam County Clerk of Courts office and prior to that at Merrill Insurance Agency. She had been a member of the First Baptist Church of Palatka. As the wife of a coach, Sylvia spent many evenings attending various sporting events supporting her husband and cheering on the athletes. Sylvia cherished time with family and especially with her grandkids. She also enjoyed the beach and playing card games. Preceding her in death were her husband of 37 years, Dwayne Cox and her parents, Raymond Beville and Anne Gagnon Beville. Sylvia is survived by a daughter, Chrissie Smith (Travis) of St. Augustine, a sister, Jo Anne Dickey (Doug) of Mandarin, 2 grandchildren, Camryn Smith and Paige Smith, her best friend, Cheryl Stevens of Interlachen and numerous nieces and nephews.
