Kathleen Knotts Delzell, 87, of East Palatka, passed from this life peacefully on Sunday, August 28, 2016 following an extended illness. Born in Springfield, Ohio, Kathleen was raised in Urbana, Ohio until moving to Crescent City in 1945. She graduated from Crescent City High School in 1947 and moved to Palatka in 1953. Kathleen had worked several places over the years including 5 years with the U.S. Post office in Crescent City. She had also served as proof reader and bookkeeper at her husband Jody’s business, Palatka Printing Company. Kathleen retired from the Palatka Daily News after 10 years as a copywriter and advertising sales representative. Kathleen was a member of the Palatka Woman’s Club since 1953 as well as St. Monica Catholic Church where she had been very involved in the Ladies Guild. Years ago, she served as den mother with her son, John’s Cub Scouts.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo Knotts and Helen Haney Knotts, a sister, Mary Lou Sherry and 3 brothers, Capt. Daniel Knotts, Lt. Col. Edward Knotts and Thomas Knotts.
Kathleen is survived by her husband of 64 years, John M. “Jody” Delzell of East Palatka, a son, John M. Delzell of East Palatka, a sister, Felice Knotts of Satsuma, a granddaughter, Shelby Bellamy of Federal Point and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, September 1, 2016 at St. Monica Catholic Church with Father Amar Nagothu officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill West Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6-8 P.M. at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in Kathleen’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Treatment and Research Center, Ramsey Foundation, 640 Jackson St., St. Paul, MN 55101-9021 or to St. Monica Catholic Church, 114 S. 4th St., Palatka, FL 32177.
