Obituary for Myrtle Griffin-Gornto
Myrtle Griffin-Gornto, 83, of East Palatka, passed from this life on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at her home following an extended illness. A native of Bell, Florida, she resided in Putnam County since 1955 coming from Trenton. Myrtle worked as cashier and bookkeeper at Winn-Dixie for 34 years. She was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and the women’s auxiliary of VFW Post #3349 in Palatka. Myrtle also enjoyed gardening, bird-watching and ceramics in her leisure time.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Orie Griffin and second husband, Sidney V. Gornto as well as a brother, Marvin Leo Martin.
Myrtle is survived by a son, Richard Orie “Ricky” Griffin (Lenora) of Interlachen, a daughter Sharon Elaine “Sheri” Turner (Mike Chambliss) of Interlachen, 2 sisters, Marie Lee of Hampton and Bonnie Gilbert of Homasassa, 4 grandchildren, James Bailey (Christie), Jeff Bailey (Lauren), Alaisa Griffin and Will Johnson (Tiffani), 4 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 10:00 A.M. Monday, October 17, 2016 at Oak Hill East Cemetery in Palatka with Rev. Willie McKinnon officiating. No visitation is scheduled.
